This month, we’re excited to highlight one of our exceptional Roboyans, Ligia Pastrán.

Ligia, based in Nuremberg, Germany, has been a key member of the Roboyo team since October 2019. Originally from Colombia, she first arrived in Germany in 2010 on a scholarship. She quickly fell in love with the culture and language and returned in 2017 to pursue her master’s degree. With a background in computer science, Ligia initially aimed to work in product development. However, she discovered her true passion for consulting and automation, which ultimately led her to Roboyo.

Read on to learn more about Ligia’s inspiring journey and her role at Roboyo!

The HR team reached out to me one day and made me a job offer. I was on vacation in my home country at the time, but after returning, I had an interview in Nuremberg, met the founders and owners, and got to listen to their inspiring ideas. Their entrepreneurship was impressive, and this is how I got here.

“To succeed in Roboyo? One should be able to show what they can do and be open to learn from others.”

What do you like the most about living in Germany?

Ligia Pastran

That it is so peaceful and quiet. I like that quietness and peace in the city and in the places where I live. Also that positive and normal approach to everything Germans have.

I always enjoyed working as a consultant in consultancy companies that never stop. But in Roboyo we are constantly pushing each other and pushing ourselves to always learn something new. One day it is something technical. The other day, it’s something related to management. But we are permanently learning, it never stops and never gets boring.

I always enjoyed teaching and coaching other people, helping everyone learn a bit more to give their best. Even before I became a manager in 2021, I did the same for my colleagues. Acknowledge the skills in others, helping them show themselves and push to their limits. And I think that’s the main reason and that’s why I still enjoy it very much.

Was there something or somebody who helped you become the people manager you are today?

I have always tried to get advice from people who are quite experienced. In this sense I can definitely say that for Olaf Blaak, who is my current manager, from him I have learned a lot.

Yes, it’s also again related to learning, and one area I’m eager to dive deeper into is AI. I find it fascinating but haven’t explored it deeper yet. Additionally, I love building applications, so I want to expand my knowledge of different tools and solutions. A key goal for me is to become more familiar with various product offerings to better support our customers in their choices.

Understanding the importance of valuing others and recognizing what each person can offer and teach. I believe learning from one another is essential and view it as positive for newcomers to showcase their abilities while staying open to learning from everyone. This mindset fosters continuous growth and progress.

My main wish is health for everyone. With endless health, we could fully enjoy life, spend time with loved ones, and pursue our passions. I’d personally enjoy reading and listening to music more often. So basically to spend the time on those things that make me happy.

A writer from Chile, her name is Isabella Gende, and I’ll be getting more books from her this week. I am very eager to continue reading her work. In general, I read from different genres, but no science fiction. Lately, I have been listening to an album that I have been listening to the whole of last year which is from my one of my favorite bands Judas Priest. Their music makes me happy.

NO, I cannot listen to music while I work because I lose my concentration. I prefer to keep it quiet.

To get to see the Northern Lights. Which is a pretty common one. I have planned to see them a few times already, but I always ended up changing the plan. I hope I can see them one day.

I played some instruments when I was a child. The guitar, piano and an instrument similar to a mandolin. I stopped doing that, but I am still a careful listener. I would love to be able to play several instruments very skillfully. That would be my dream. Then I would join a band.

People have been surprised about the fact that I really like heavy metal music.

My last meal would be Ajiaco. A chicken soup from Colombia, but it has two ingredients that only grow in Colombia, so it is really special.

THANK YOU, LIGIA!
